Like many elementary school aged kids, I got a sapling for Arbor Day. We received a coupon at school and were told to have our parents pick it up at King Soopers. The tiny thing came with its root end in a produce bag. I was super excited. But somehow the thing got left in the garage. Abandoned for weeks or months, I forgot about it. But when I found it, I just had to plant it. Seeing the futility, my dad let me stick it in the ground. Unbelievably, it grew. And survived the winter and another. But it had been planted so carelessly -- it didn't matter where, right? -- so we moved it to a nearby flower bed. That move was pretty careless too because the little got moved one or two more times! It finally found a home on the south side of our yard and thrived. 50-plus years later it's going better than ever. **Photo Credits:** Brigitte, June 2025 **The Tree That Grew** - far side of the yard, left side of picture ![[74D9C671-DFC9-4394-BA26-D6D035D99986_1_105_c.jpeg]] **The Tree That Grew** - left edge of picture ![[A8FA3DF3-0FF0-4A96-A56C-E819E0FDA8F4_1_105_c.jpeg]]
